The United States was well represented not only at the first Modern Olympics in Athens in 1896, but also at the 1906 Athens Games. In the track and field events in 1906, for example, America had 31 athletes participating, a larger representation than any of the other 19 countries represented with the exception of Greece. In all, America had 38 athletes competing in five sports. This exhibit highlights the most important events of the 1906 Olympic Games with material available in the Local History Room of the Dayton Metro Library.
