As a progressive city, Dayton and its citizens have always cared for historically valuable materials. Most of the collections have come to the Library through donations from various citizens or societies and through the efforts of various librarians. These collections document human experiences and serve as Dayton's collective memory. Because preserved records transmit our cultural heritage from generation to generation, the Library provides future generations with a useful record of past human activity in Dayton and the Miami Valley area.
