Box 1, Folder 2, Manuscript Fragments - number of items 6
Undated
This is about the experience of Captain Saunders, Manager of the Flying
Division of the Fairchild Aviation Limited, Grand Mere, Que., when
he was called to take Mr. Hodkinson, an inspector of the Hudson's Bay Company,
on a round of some of the posts in northern Quebec. The Journey began on
January 14, 1928 and ended on February 6.
Undated
Fragments of an unfinished manuscript, The Cradle of Aviation.
Apparently intended to tell the story of the "singular achievements of
two obscure mechanics from Dayton, Ohio," i.e. the Wright brothers, it
describes some instances of obscure inventors who did not get the recognition
they deserved. At the end is a hand-written note to Mr. Marshall signed
with the initials L. M. D. and dated May 25, 1929.
Undated
Untitled fragment of a story about "Shorty" Schroeder, who was preparing
for a high-altitude test flight.
Undated
Entitled Prelude, this is apparently an outline for an article or book
about the history of McCook Field. Under "Flying Episodes" is listed Shroeder's
altitude flight (see previous item).
Undated
Untitled sketch of the history of photography, including the development
of motion pictures.
Undated
Untitled reminiscence of a boyhood home formerly standing where there
is now a quarry.
