The Market House Note:This is the east side of South Main Street between North Market and Fourth Streets in the early 1850’s. The building on the left is the Market House, which was built in 1829 on the site of the present city building, erected in 1876. The Fred Reibold Shoe Store is on the corner of the alley. Schwarty’s Clothing Store was next then Abbey Drug Store and Bosler’s Bakery. The U. B.’s first building on the corner was erected in 1854. The one-story house on the right was Peter P. Lowe’s Law Office. |
